HAJJ ALUMNI COMMITTEE OF NEW JERSEY EXECUTIVE BOARD 2023
Hajj Alumni Committee History
The Hajj Alumni Committee of NJ (“HAC”) was established in 2000, by Bro. Rasul Ansari (who has returned to Allah). Bro. Ansari envisioned the creation of HAC after attending a return reception for Muslims who had made the journey to Hajj in 1998, and was inspired by their stories to make his intention for himself and his wife to go the following year (1999).
Bro. Ansari and his wife Elizabeth did make the journey in 1999 and returned to tell their stories. After his return he became aware that the send-off and the return activities were given by the previous hajj group and realized what a hardship this was to some and began to think in terms of “we need to do more” and began discussions with others on what we could do. After forming the group, the first priority was to have everyone pay a small portion and do fundraisers to eliminate the hardship on the Hajjis to accumulate the needed funds for the send-off and return programs.
As time went by interest in our committee and our goals grew as to ways HAC was going to promote and encourage Hajj. Since the inception of HAC, we have had many send-off and return programs, classes to prepare for Hajj, produced marketing materials, yearly fundraisers and produced three books, that the Hajjis wrote and submitted their reflections of their journey to Hajj and their stories are compiled in these books. We also, provided transportation to and from the airport with the respective Hajjis and the ummah cheering them on before 9/11.
Our main goal is to keep Bro. Ansari’s dream alive by evolving, growing and progressing in the future. HAC wants to keep Hajj relevant and in front of the Ummah 12 months of the year and not just during the Hajj season. We want to keep the community informed as to the importance of the 5th Pillar “Hajj” as something they should make every effort to complete. To make this a priority in their lives.
Since the world-wide pandemic there have been many changes as to how you can go to Hajj. Whereas, before you could go through a travel agency as a group with a guide that focused yearly on taking different groups of people from their respective countries. Hajj has now been taken over by the Saudi Government with their new rules and fees, which we have detailed on our website: Hajj.Nusak.sa
All of our executive team has completed the Hajj at least once, and has participated in many presentations to help future believers prepare for the pilgrimage.

(Here I am at your service, oh Lord, here I am - here I am. No partner do you have. Here I am. Truly, the praise and the favor are yours, and the dominion. No partner do you have.)
These are the words chanted by some two million people from across Saudi Arabia and throughout the world heading, as if pulled by a magnet, to one single spot on Earth. As has happened every year for 14 centuries, Muslim pilgrims gather in Makkah to perform rituals based on those conducted by the Prophet Muhammad during his last visit to the city.
